Academic Coordinator

Compensation: $22.25-25/hour

 

Schedule: Typically, Monday-Friday 8am-4pm, may vary depending on residential needs; Position is year-round and may include some holidays

 

Embark Behavioral Health Bend is seeking a dedicated Academic Coordinator to join our team! We are passionate about positively impacting youth mental health through our residential programs, which integrate experiential activities, academic support, interpersonal skill-building, and more. The Academic Coordinator plays a key role in supporting our clients' learning, both in-person and virtually, in collaboration with two onsite teachers. 

 

About Us: Located in Bend, Oregon, our residential treatment facility serves teens aged 10-17 who are struggling with behavioral health issues. Our family-style residence promotes community engagement and interpersonal development, creating a supportive environment for healing and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee student virtual learning and collaborate with the virtual teacher to provide educational support as needed.
  • Ensure the safety and emotional well-being of clients through consistent monitoring, documentation, and enforcing boundaries to create a supportive environment.
  • Teach classes and lead book club as needed, including substituting, and lead groups during summer programming.
  • Supervise the classroom and collaborate effectively with direct care staff to maintain a positive learning environment, structure, and support for students.
  • Work as a residential direct care staff when program need requires. 
  • Respond to client crises by implementing de-escalation skills and training.
  • Engage with parents within the guidelines of Best Practices.
  • Teach and mentor students individually, in small groups, or as a class to address specific learning challenges.
  • Ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the on-campus school, including maintaining safety standards, working with IT department to troubleshoot IT issues, and conducting monthly fire drills.
  • Develop and enforce classroom rules and administrative policies.
  • Document educational plans, goals, and progress as required by the facility.
  • Adhere to treatment plans and participate in treatment team meetings as requested.
  • Follow policy and procedure. 
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree and relevant experience
  • Minimum age of 21
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check and drug screening
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients
  • Proficiency in de-escalating emotionally or behaviorally dysregulated individuals

Preferred Experience:

  • Professional experience in an academic setting
  • Special education and/or behavioral health experience
