Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 per year

Location: 3133 W Frye Rd Suite 525, Chandler, AZ 85226 (On-Site)

Schedule: Monday - Friday (8AM - 5PM) With 1 work from home day

About the Role

The Benefits Manager plays a critical role in shaping and managing Embark’s employee benefits strategy across all locations. This includes overseeing a self-insured health plan, FSAs, HSAs, 401(k), COBRA, life events, open enrollment, leave programs (FMLA, Parental Leave), and vendor partnerships. Reporting to the Senior Director of Human Resources, this role ensures compliance, drives operational excellence, and delivers exceptional service to employees. The ideal candidate brings a strategic mindset, strong attention to detail, and a passion for supporting employee well-being through thoughtful, compliant, and cost-effective benefits solutions.

 

Responsibilities

  • Benefits Strategy & Design:
    Develop and refine benefits programs that align with company goals and employee needs, using data and trends to drive continuous improvement.

  • Employee Support:
    Act as the primary contact for benefits inquiries, ensuring timely, accurate, and empathetic responses while enhancing the overall employee experience.

  • Plan Administration:
    Oversee daily operations of all benefit plans (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, COBRA, FSA, HSA, 401(k)), including life event changes, billing, and vendor coordination.

  • Vendor & Contract Management:
    Lead negotiations with brokers and carriers, monitor performance, and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure quality and cost-effective service.

  • Compliance & Reporting:
    Ensure adherence to all relevant regulations (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, etc.), manage required filings (e.g., Form 5500), and maintain accurate plan documentation.

  • Open Enrollment & Communication:
    Lead open enrollment planning and execution, develop clear employee communications, and partner with Payroll and HRIS to ensure data accuracy.

  • Leave Management:
    Administer FMLA and other leave programs, ensuring compliance and coordination with disability benefits.

  • Data Analysis & Reporting:
    Analyze claims and utilization data, track KPIs, and provide actionable insights and reports to leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in benefits administration, including plan design, reconciliation of benefits, compliance, and vendor management.
  • CEBS, PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP/SCP certification preferred.
  • Experience with health insurance (preferably self-insured plans), retirement plans, PTO, COBRA administration, disability, leave management, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, and life insurance.
  • Working knowledge of HRIS systems; ExponentHR experience preferred.
  • Experience in multi-site or multi-state organizations is strongly preferred.
