The Compliance Officer will lead Embark’s continued efforts in designing and deploying the behavioral health system's approach to quality and safety across the continuum of care. As an executive, this leader will also be key to capacity-building t during  the organization’s expansion efforts while advancing the quality and safety of clinical care delivery across the entire enterprise.

Responsibilities

Lead Organizational Compliance

  • Ensure Embark’s programs operate in alignment with federal and state regulations, ethical standards, and internal policies.
  • Provide strategic oversight to ensure operations remain consistent with company goals, policies, and regulatory mandates.
  • Serve as Embark’s HIPAA Privacy Officer, overseeing the medical records request process and privacy standards.

Oversee Risk, Investigations & Legal Support

  • Manage casework related to client and workforce legal matters.
  • Interpret legal and regulatory texts, identify risks, and conduct internal investigations.
  • Act as a liaison with legal counsel to minimize organizational risk and potential legal action.

Drive Policy, Auditing & Regulatory Alignment

  • Review, update, and maintain all clinical and non‑clinical policies and procedures companywide.
  • Develop and manage systems to track compliance notifications, audit outcomes, investigations, corrective action plans, and trends.
  • Conduct internal audits related to Stark, Anti‑Kickback, Conflicts of Interest, Fraud, Waste & Abuse, and other healthcare laws.

Strengthen Organizational Culture & Training

  • Educate and train employees across all programs on compliance expectations and high‑risk regulatory topics.
  • Lead and manage the compliance hotline, including investigations and follow‑up actions.
  • Partner closely with Clinical and Quality teams to ensure alignment between compliance, documentation, and program operations.

Executive & Board-Level Collaboration

  • Provide regular compliance reporting and insights to the Board of Directors.
  • Offer strategic recommendations that support safety, ethical practice, and regulatory readiness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, law, business, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Healthcare compliance certifications such as CHC (highly valued)

  • 3–5+ years of healthcare compliance or regulatory experience; behavioral health preferred

  • Strong working knowledge of healthcare reimbursement, privacy laws, fraud and abuse regulations, and compliance program management

  • Experience creating, implementing, and auditing compliance programs

  • Excellent analytical, ethical judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to clearly explain complex regulations to non‑legal stakeholders

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel; familiarity with EHR systems

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
