Child Care Supervisor - Alexandria, VA

Pay $30.00 - $35.00 per hour (DOE)

Full-Time 2nd Shift (1pm-11pm)

 

Embark Behavioral Health in Alexandria, VA is seeking dedicated and experienced Child Care Supervisor to join our exceptional team. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about mental health who bring leadership experience or a background in mental health, psychology, social services, inpatient care, direct support, or similar roles.
 
Embark Behavioral Health Alexandria is a residential treatment program for adolescent, providing a supportive, family-style environment that fosters connection, accountability, and personal growth. Our program focuses on helping youth navigate behavioral health challenges while building strong interpersonal and life skills.

 

Child Care Supervisors play a key role in ensuring safety, structure, and consistency on campus. This position leads a team of Residential Mentors, guiding daily operations while supporting students in their therapeutic journey.

 

Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead staff on shift, ensuring smooth operations and completion of all necessary tasks.
  • Supervise Residential Mentors by holding weekly meetings, providing feedback, and supporting their professional development.
  • Support training and onboarding of new mentors.
  • Monitor client whereabouts, safety, and emotional well-being through regular checks and documentation.
  • Maintain the program schedule and structure by holding consistent boundaries.
  • Communicate and document shift information effectively to support the team.
  • Respond to crises using de-escalation skills and training.
  • Provide behavioral and academic support during school hours.
  • Plan and engage in extracurricular activities with students, such as arts, crafts, sports, and outdoor adventures.
  • Occasionally support with meal prep or heating and serving meals in the kitchen.
  • Assist with residential maintenance or administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field plus 2 years of experience working with children, including 1 year in a residential setting
  • High school diploma/GED plus 5 years of experience working with children, including 2 years in a residential setting
  • An approved combination of education and relevant experience working with youth
  • Experience working with at-risk youth or post-secondary training in mental health preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred but not required
